88th Academy Awards Winner Predictions

Oscars na pala which means it's only a few days before we see Leonardo DiCaprio holding an Oscar statue on Dolby Theater stage with Kate Winslet clapping in the audience beaming with tears. Yay!

2015 has been great in films, legit gusto ko ang 2015 movies, but the Oscar category races didn't quite excite me so to get this done and over with, here are my winner predictions. Then, see you on Twitter or Facebook for my Oscar related posts come Oscar night/morning ;)

Best Picture
The Big Short -- ALTERNATE
Bridge of Spies
Brooklyn
Mad Max: Fury Road
The Martian
The Revenant -- PREDICTED WINNER
Room
Spotlight

The Revenant, without any confidence whatsoever because this category is a bitch to predict.  This one could go three ways so bahala na. I would love a Mad Max win, which is currently the 4th placer but chances are low. But if I were to choose among the three frontrunners, I'd choose Spotlight. The Big Short is my least favorite, and I can't fathom two Inarritu films winning two consecutive years when the Oscars could have handed Linklater his first last year. Oh well... Go Mad Max and Spotlight!

Best Director
Adam McKay – The Big Short
George Miller – Mad Max: Fury Road -- ALTERNATE
Alejandro G. Iñárritu – The Revenant -- PREDICTED WINNER
Lenny Abrahamson – Room
Tom McCarthy – Spotlight

Perfect result would be a George Miller win but precursors say Inarritu.

Best Actor
Bryan Cranston – Trumbo as Dalton Trumbo
Matt Damon – The Martian as Mark Watney
Leonardo DiCaprio – The Revenant as Hugh Glass -- PREDICTED WINNER
Michael Fassbender – Steve Jobs as Steve Jobs
Eddie Redmayne – The Danish Girl as Lili Elbe / Einar Wegener

No alternates needed. Congrats Leo!

Best Actress
Cate Blanchett – Carol as Carol Aird
Brie Larson – Room as Joy "Ma" Newsome -- PREDICTED WINNER
Jennifer Lawrence – Joy as Joy Mangano
Charlotte Rampling – 45 Years as Kate Mercer
Saoirse Ronan – Brooklyn as Eilis Lacey -- ALTERNATE

I didn't foresee that Brie would sweep the televised awards pre Oscars. I thought it'd be a fierce battle between her and angel Saoirse, but the fact that it's not, Brie is easily our newest Best Actress.

Best Supporting Actor
Christian Bale – The Big Short as Michael Burry
Tom Hardy – The Revenant as John Fitzgerald
Mark Ruffalo – Spotlight as Michael Rezendes
Mark Rylance – Bridge of Spies as Rudolf Abel -- ALTERNATE
Sylvester Stallone – Creed as Rocky Balboa -- PREDICTED WINNER

The times Stallone didn't win this category in a televised award was when he's not nominated but when he's nominated, he wins.

Best Supporting Actress
Jennifer Jason Leigh – The Hateful Eight as Daisy Domergue
Rooney Mara – Carol as Therese Belivet
Rachel McAdams – Spotlight as Sacha Pfeiffer
Alicia Vikander – The Danish Girl as Gerda Wegener -- PREDICTED WINNER
Kate Winslet – Steve Jobs as Joanna Hoffman -- ALTERNATE

It's 2-2 between Kate Winslet and Alicia Vikander in this category but notice how Kate only wins this when Vikander's The Danish Girl role is rightfully nominated in the Lead category? I think Alicia Vikander has this but I won't be surprised if Kate snatches it. I won't be surprised if voters want to see Leo and Kate hold an Oscar statute on the same night.
